Correspondence and papers of the Hodgson family of Newcastle-upon-Tyne; 1760-1887, n.d. Thomas Slack (d. 1784) founded the Newcastle Chronicle in 1763 and was succeeded as owner by his son-in-law, Solomon Hodgson (d. 1800), after whose death the newspaper was continued by his widow, Sarah (d. 1822), daughter of Thomas Slack, remaining in the possession of the family until it was sold at the end of 1849 by Thomas and James Hodgson, co-proprietors after their mother's death. Presented, with Add. Ch. 75496-75498, by Mrs Mary Edith Morgan.
