PROCESSIONAL, in Latin, of Roman use (cf. art. 1), with music throughout in square notation on a stave of four lines. Contents:-(1) 'Septem psalmi penitenciales', and Litany, including St Bernardino of Siena (canonised 1450). The substitution of 'ministro' for 'pontifici' in the collect 'Omnipotens sempiterne Deus, miserere famulo tuo ministro nostro' (f. 8b) may, but does not conclusively, indicate Franciscan origin (cf. Leroquais, Les Brévires manuscrits ... de France, i, pp. cvi, cvii). ff. 2-9;-(2) 'In dominicis diebus ad vesperas': an unfinished extract from the liturgical Psalter. ff. 9-10;-

'Virgo mater ecclesie' (cf. Dreves, Analecta Hymnica, xxiii, p. 57) and memorials to SS. Francis and Antony of Padua. ff. 97-103;-(16) Antiphoner (mainly for Vespers), containing:-Antiphons, etc., for the Transfiguration (ff. 103 b-104b) and feasts between Christmas and the Holy Innocents (ff. 104b-112b); Tonale, etc. (ff.113-117b); Antiphons, etc., for the Commune sanctorum, ending with the dedication of a church (ff. 118-132 b; f. 129 is Misbound, see below); Choral portions of the mass (as in the Henry Bradshaw Soc.'s Missale Romanum, pp. 498-499) and the office for the Transfiguration (ff. 132 b-138b); Antiphons, etc., for St Francis (4 Oct.), the Stigmata of St Francis (17 Sept.) and Trinity Sunday (ff. 138-153); Antiphons and choral portions of the mass for Corpus Christi (ff. 153-159); Antiphons, etc., for the Temporale, First Sunday of Advent-Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost, except the feasts mentioned above (ff. 159b-194; f. 129 should follow f. 189, a leaf is missing before f. 190). ff. 103 b-194;-(17) Nicene Creed, with music; imperfect at end. ff. 194b- 195b;-(18) The end of Compline of the Hours of the Passion, the office composed by St Bonaventura (opera omnia, Quaracchi, viii, pp. 152-158), without musical notation. There are considerable variations among surviving MSS. (cf. ibid. pp. lxi-lxiii, 152, n. 1); another copy is in Add. MS. 14804, ff. 125-141b. f. 196. Vellum; ff. iii + 196 (f. 1 blank). 4½ in. x 3 in. Written in Italy, second half of xv cent. Gatherings of 8 and 10 leaves (il2 wants 11, 12; ii4; xvi10 + one misplaced leaf; xxii8, wants 1), usually with catchwords. Initials in red and blue, some flourished. On ff. 109, 110b, 111, 112, 118 b are impressions of a book-stamp (probably 18th cent.) SS. ANNUNZIATA. Bookplate of arms of Edmund Montagu Boyle, F.S.A. (f. i), and signature of Miss Geraldine Boyle (f. ii).
