Imperf. at beg. ff. 80-115b;-(8) Hymn (Chevalier, Repert. Hymnol., no. 6809) on the Seven Joys of the Virgin, beg. 'Gaude flore virginali / honoreque spirituali', preceded by a short rubric recording the Vision of St Thomas of Canterbury (cf. Royal MS. 17 A. xxvii, f. 83 b) and followed by an antiphon and prayer. A similar rubric, as well as the same antiphon and prayer, accompanies this hymn in Paris, Bib. Nat. lat. MS. 13285 (cf. Leroquais, Les Livres d'Heures MSS. de la Bibliothèque Nationale, ii, pp. 90, 91). ff. 116-119;-(9) 'Item de beata Maria oratio ualde deuota': the hymn 'Stabat mater dolorosa' (Chevalier, op. cit., no. 19416). Gatherings chiefly of 8 leaves (i6, ii6, ix6, last4; iii wants i ; iv, i substituted; v wants 3; vi wants 6; vii wants 4, 7; viii wants 3, 6, 8; ix wants i, 6; x wants i; xii wants 4, 8; xiii wants 1); ff. 1, 2, 131, 132 are fly-leaves. Illuminated initials in gold and colours. Black morocco binding, circ. 17th cent., with a stamp of a skull and cross-bones at the corners and on the back, and a central stamp of the instruments of the Passion. Erased inscriptions occur on ff. 5 8 b, 127b. The latter, 16th cent., appears to read 'Maistre adam Houel presbytre Cure de touuille' [? Touville near Montfort-sur-Risle, dépt. Eure]. A modern pencilled signature, 'M. A. Cox', is on f. i. Sotheby's sale-cat., 28-29 July 1927, lot 76.
