CARTA EXECUTORIA or Patent of Nobility (hidalguía) issued to Diego Ramirez de Caiñizares, of Tarancon, in the province of Cuenca, Spain. Dated at Granada, 31 Oct. 1600. Spanish. Imperf. at the beginning. The note of attestation runs (f. 88): 'Yo Blas barela Scriuano mayor de los hijosdalgo de la Audiencia del Rey nuestro senor la fize escriuir por su mandado con Acuerdo del presidente y oidores della'. Followed (ff. 89-91b) by acknowledgements of presentation to the authorities of Tarancon, with signatures, 16-18 Nov. 1600. Vellum; ff. i + 94. 12¼ in. x 8¼ in. A. D. 1600. Gatherings of 12 leaves (wants i, ix6, x4). Initials in gold on grounds of blue and red patterned in white. On f. 87 is a miniature representing the recipient. The leaden seal is missing, but a fragment of the silken cord of attachment remains. Original Spanish binding of light-brown leather decorated in gold with rolls and small tools, including lions and helmeted heads. Three bands of ornament enclose a rectangular centre panel containing another band arranged lozenge-wise; remains of five silk ties.
