COURT-BOOK of the manor of Iwerne Minster, co. Dors.; 18 Apr., 4 Edw. VI [1550]-6 Aug. 1632. The manor, once the property of Shaftesbury Abbey, was divided at this period among a number of owners (including the Squibb family, see below), but fell in the 18th cent. into the hands of the Bower family (cf. Hutchins, History of Dorset, 3rd ed., iii, pp. 536-555). Included (ff. 9-11b) are several court records of the manor of East Orchard ('Est Orchett') in the parish of Iwerne Minster, 24 Nov., 6 Edw. VI [1552]- 2 Apr., 4 Eliz. I [ 1562], and appended (f. 116) is a note by Robert Foot of the 'tithingmanship' of Iwerne Minster, 1676 (cf. also f. 115b). Paper; ff. ii + 117. 12¼ in. x 8.1/8 in. A.D. 1550-1676. Original covers of limp vellum, with the names 'Ric. Squybbe' and 'Willelmus Squybbe' scribbled on f. ii in a 17th cent. hand. On the back cover (f. ii b) in a 17th(?) cent. hand is the inscription 'liber est mri (?) fforesterij (sic) de Gyllyngham'. On the front cover (f. i) in a hand contemporary with the first entries is written 'Iwerne orchett'.
