COURT-BOOK of the manor of Glavering [Glevering Hall in Hacheston, co. Suff.], containing an English transl of the court-rolls of 1 Hen. IV- 2 Ric. III [1399-1484], when it belonged to Leiston Abbey. A later portion of the same MS. is Add. MS. 38795 G (ff. 85-96b), which extends from 1525-1578 (see Cat. of Add.MSS., 1911-1915, p. 244). Extracts from the MS. have been printed by Sybil Andrews and Lilian J. Redstone, 'Suffolk Courts in English', in Proc. of the Suffolk Inst. of Archaeology and Nat. Hist. xx, 1929, pp. 199-213, where part of f. 2 is reproduced. The MS., which is written in a Chancery hand, may possibly have been prepared for John Bull, who held Glevering Hall from 1574 (see Andrews and Redstone, op. cit., p. 200), in connection with some Chancery suit in which he was concemed (cf. W. A. Copinger, The Manors of Suffolk, iv, p. 288). Later (1584-1692) court rolls of the same manor are Add. Roll 36992. Paper; ff. i + 25. Folio. Circ. A.D. 1578. A pencil pagination on the top centre of the recto and verso of each leaf extends from 1 to 50 and is continued (51-74) in Add. MS. 38795, ff. 85-96b. Probably belonged, like the latter, in the 16th cent., to Anthony Bull, of Lincoln's Inn (see ibid., f. 86). Belonged, 19th cent., to Henry Prigg, of Fornham All Saints, Bury St Edmunds, and afterwards to his daughter, Mrs Beatrice M. Andrews, of Bury St Edmunds.
