'THE INDIAN SONG OF SONGS'; a translation, by Sir Edwin Arnold, K.C.I.E., from the Sanskrit, of the 'Gita Govinda' of Jayadeva. Autograph. Published, with many alterations, in 1875. The MS. is imperf., having lost after f. 63 much of the seventh sarga and all the eighth, ninth and tenth sargas (corresponding to pp. 74-92 of the printed version). Followed by two poems, 'The Rajpoot Wife' (ff. 70-73, 72b-69b, 67b, 66b) and 'The Rajah's Ride' (ff. 66b-64b, on versos only), the latter wanting the last six stanzas. Both are printed (with considerable changes) in the 1875 volume referred to above. On f. 69 is a pencil draft of an earlier version of part of 'The Rajpoot Wife' and on f. 68 b is a pencil list of thirteen poems apparently destined to form a volume and including the four original poems actually printed (with different titles) in 1875. Another autograph work of Sir Edwin Arnold is his 'Bostân', Add. MS. 41649 above. Paper; ff. 73. 8 in. x 6¼ in. A.D. 1875. Presented by H.H. the Maharaja of Burdwan.
