'FANTASIO': a comic opera in three acts, with overture and orchestral accompaniments, etc., in score, by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880). Mainly autograph. Libretto by Paul de Musset, based on the play by Alfred de Musset, his brother. French. Published in 1872 and first performed in Paris at the Opéra-Comique, 18 Jan. 1872, and then in Vienna, 21 Feb. 1872, in a German translation made by Eduard Mautner and Richard Genée (Loewenberg, Annals of Opera, 2nd ed., 1955, col. 1020). This score is said to have been sent by Offenbach to Genée for translation and was discovered amongst his effects (f. i). An incomplete German translation has been added, possibly in the hand of Genée. The beginning of the Overture and parts of Acts I and II are missing, and there is a certain amount of material not in the printed version. Transpositions, often incomplete, of some of the numbers have been added in a different hand. Paper; ff. ii + 230. Folio. A.D. 1872. Belonged to Richard Genée and M[ax?] Friedländer.
