SCATTERGOOD COLLECTIONS. Vol. IV. Alphabet of Arms of English families, arranged alphabetically by counties, the arms being given in blazon and the crests in trick. In a few cases the date of the grant of the arms is noted, the latest (f. 178) being 1694. Arranged alphabetically by counties (index on f. 1), except that Northampton coats appear on ff. 311b-318b as well as on ff. 177b-184, and Middlesex is out of order at ff. 302-308b. Paper; ff. ii + 319. Folio. XVIII cent. Probably written in two hands, the first extending from ff. 2-37, the second from ff. 37b-318b. An inscription (f. 297b) 'Geo Bishop / 3 St. Benets Hill / Doctors Commons / 1st January 1819' presumably refers to a member of the family of Herald Painters of that name and address. Phillipps MS. 24210 (Sotheby's sale-cat., 15-18 June 1908, lot 29). Lot 218 in another, unidentified, catalogue (see f. i).
