RAMAYANA, the great epic poem of Valmiki, in Sanscrit, narrating the exploits of the hero Rama
- Scope & Content:
-
This copy is written on paper, in the Devanagari character, but is imperfect, wanting the third and fifth books. It is illustrated throughout with many hundreds of curious colored drawings, a portion of which is exceedingly well executed. The first book was transcribed Samvat, 1769 (A.D. 1713), by a more recent hand than the remainder of the work, which is dated Samvat, 1707-1710 (A.D. 1651-1654). This sumptuous copy formerly belonged to the Rajah of Odeypore, who presented it to the British Resident, Lt.-Col James Tod, from whom it came into the library of the Duke of Sussex. 3 Vols. Large Folio. [l5,295, 15,296, 15,297]
