This is the answer of the Marquis de Pombal to the accusations against him by Francisco Jose Caldeira Soares Galbardo de Mendanha, in the year 1779 ; and it contains a justification of his administration. Appended is a copy of the Decree of the Queen Donna Maria, ordering the suppression and destruction of the Memoir of accusation, and the Answer, as containing secret matters of state and reflexions on high officers of the realm, dat. 6 Sept. 1779 together with a copy of Mendanha's Memoir, intitled " Libelo famoso de accaõ de lezaõ innormissima, etc., contra os reos, o illusto. e exmo.
