13. Ordinance of Thomas of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence, Grand Seneschal of England, concerning Heralds' fees; Caen, 3 Sept. 1417. Cf. Lansd. MS. 285, f 47 b. f. 60 b. On the fly-leaf (f. 2) is a fragment (15th cent.) from the English Metrical Romance of King Robert of Sicily: cf. Add. MS. 22,283 and Catalogue of Romances, vol. i. p. 763. Vellum (f. 1, a 16th cent. table of contents, paper); ff. 61. Early XVth cent. With illuminated initials and borders of English style. The first initial (f. 6) contains the arms of Mowbray, Dukes of Norfolk and Earls Marshal; and the MS. was probably written in the time of, and possibly for, John Mowbray, Earl Marshal 1405, and Duke of Norfolk 1424, ob. 1432. On the fly-leaf at the end (f. 61) is the name (obliterated) of Anthony Widville, Earl of Rivers (1469-83), perhaps as owner. Bound in wooden boards covered with brown leather, stamped with panel and bands, the latter having a dragon and gryphon and the binders' cyphers G. W. and I. G. (circ. 1520); rebacked. Octavo.
