Letter from Henry II. to the Prior and Convent of Christ Church, Canterbury, revoking all his encroachments on the liberties of the English Church; dated 1164 (obviously a blunder for 1172), in the presence of the Cardinal-Legates Albert and Theodwine. f. 95. This letter (an insertion at the foot of the page) is not mentioned by the chroniclers, nor does the original appear to be extant. It, was evidently written in fulfilment of the last of Henry's oaths of purgation, as given by Gervase of Canterbury, Chronica, Rolls series, vol. i. (1879) p. 239. Printed, Engl. Hist. Belonged in the 16th cent. to Robert Johnson (f. 29), and subsequently, it would appear, to Nathanael Chadwick (ff. 39, 39 b, 40 b), and (17th cent.) to John Hartley (ff. 135, 137 b). The name Samson Rooerson also appears on ff. 1, 137 b. Octavo.
