THE BIBLE, in Latin; Vulgate version. Preceded by a Calendar written for the Dominican order and closely agreeing with that in Add. MS. 23,935. Among the saints, etc., whose names are added in later hands are St. Peter Martyr [canonised 1253], St. Thomas Aquinas [can. 1323], St. Vincent [Ferrier, can. 1455], all three totum duplex, St. Servatus (similarly added in Add. 23,935), Corona Domini [4 May], and St. Anne. The order of books and prefaces resembles that of Stowe MS. 1, but the preface to St. Luke is here inserted before, not after, the Evangelist's own preface. At the end of the Psalms is a table of the Canticles (f. 313 b). At the end (f. 629) are the "Interpretationes Hebraicorum Nominum" attributed to Bede (Opera, ed. 1688, vol. iii. p. 371) and Remigius of Auxerre, followed (f. 676 b) by a table of Epistles and Gospels of Dominican use, nearly the same as in Add. 23,935, but including a few more special occasions. The epistles, etc., for St. Peter Martyr and Corpus Christi are added in the margin, as in the calendar. Vellum; ff. 685. Middle of XIIIth cent. Written in France, on very thin vellum, in a fine minute hand, with good small miniature-initials, also border-initials in red and blue. On f. 628 are erased inscriptions of the 16th cent., among them being: Simonis ord. pred. conuentus Claromon[tani] Al[uern]ie" [Clermont in Auvergne], and the name T. Gimard (?). The MS. was afterwards acquired (post 1775) by Pierre Antoine Bolongaro Crevenna (no. 66 of his sale-catalogue, Amsterdam, 1790). Morocco binding of the 18th cent., with arms of Cracherode, edges gilt and stamped. 4 9/10 X 3 1/5 inches. Bequeathed by the Rev. Clayton Mordaunt Cracherode, M.A., in 1799 and transferred from the Departmente of Printed Books in 1897 (cf. Add. 11,354-11,360).
