Title:

LETTERS of the Rev. Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, Canon of Canterbury (1851), Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Oxford (1856), and Dean of Westminster (1864-1881), addressed to Sir George Grove, D.C.L., together with a few letters of the latter in reply; 1853-1878. Most of the letters refer to the Dean's literary works, notably Sinai and Palestine, 1856, and the Lectures on the History of the Jewish Church, 1863-1876, in the publication of which he was assisted by Sir G. Grove. Six volumes. Interspersed are some letters, addressed either to the Dean or to Sir G. Grove, from other persons, whose names are included in the index; and at the end of Vol. VI. are some printed examination papers set to candidates for Holy Orders in 1859-1863. Paper. Small folio.
