This manuscript contains a census of lands granted and leased to St Mary Magdalene’s Abbey, Cologne, a house of sisters of the Penitential Order of Mary Magdalene, an order established for former sex-workers. The entries are arranged by parish, each listing the property’s grantor, its extent, and the terms of the grant, with marginalia noting the payment dates for any rent owed.
Another manuscript that once belonged to the abbey is now Add MS 21172, a set of the abbey's revenues and expenses.

Martin Joseph Routh (b. 1755, d. 1854), English classical scholar and President of Magdalen College, Oxford: his sale, Sotheby's, 5 July 1855, lot 58; purchased by the British Museum for 19s, along with Add MSS 21058-21104 (see inscription, f. [ii] recto).
