40094. LETTER-BOOK of Lord Nelson while Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean on board the "Victory," 6 Oct. 1804-4 Oct. 1805. The letters, copied in rough chronological sequence, are strictly official and are in most cases addressed to individual commanding officers, victualling agents, etc., or to the Secretary of the Admiralty and the naval authorities. Only in one case are letters received by Nelson entered (those from Capt. J. W. Maurice relating to his surrender in June 1805 of Diamond Rock in the W. Indies, ff. 201, 202). Many of the letters are printed in Sir N. H. Nicolas, The Dispatches and Letters of Vice-Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson (7 vols. 1844-1846), but not from the present volume. The preceding letterbook is Add. MS. 34964. An index is prefixed to the volume. Paper; ff. i + 231. Folio. Collingwood sale, lot 181A.
