40146. BREVIARY of Scandinavian use, with other liturgical matter, executed in the province of Upsala, possibly in the diocese of Strengnäs, since both feasts of St. Eskill occur in the calendar; these, however, have been added at a date slightly later than the main body of the book. The following Scandinavian feasts occur:-Eric (18 May) in red, Eskill (12 June) added in a 14th cent. hand, which has deleted an earlier entry on 11 June, David (25 June) added (14th cent.), Kanute (10 Jul.) in red, Transl. of Eskill (6 Oct.) added in red (14th cent.). On ff. 5, 6 b, two sets of mnemonic verses have been added (14th cent.) in the margins. f. 2;-(2) Liturgical Psalter. A leaf missing after f. 49. f. 7;-(3) Canticles. f. 61 b;-(4) Litany. f.65;-(5) Vigils of the Dead. f.66;-(6)Hymns. On f.75 b is the hymn in honour of St. Olaf beg. "Rex Olauus Gloriosus" (cf. Chevalier, Repertorium Hymnol., no. 17478). f. 68 b;-

Schück in Meddelanden från det Litteraturhistoriska Seminariet i Lund, ii, in the Acta Universitatis Lundensis, 1891-92. Owing to the shortening of the lessons only the first four lessons and about half of the fifth, as printed, are given here. f. 308 b ;-(26) The office "De compassione beate Marie Virginis," added (15th cent.). f. 318. See. fol. in text (f. 8) "ad eum." On f. 85 is an exceedingly rough coloured drawing of the crucifixion, executed late in the 13th cent. Initials in red and blue occur throughout. In the margin of f. 102 b is a signature "Martino del Musso da beluno" [Belluno] in a 17th cent. Italian hand. Acquired by the donor, whose signature is on f. 1, from Silvio Bocca, bookseller, of Rome, probably in 1897.
