COMMONPLACE-BOOK of [William Lloyd, Bishop of Norwich; cf. J. H. Overton, The Nonjurors, pp. 38-46]; mainly transcripts of religious and political papers. Names of authors, etc., are in the bishop's autograph. The principal contents are as follows:-
1. "The Presbyterian Pater Noster, Creed, and Ten Commandments"; a parody by Thomas Ashenden, rector of Dingley, co. Northt. Printed, probably in 1681. f. 2.
2. "A Speech lately made by A noble Peer of the Realm" [i.e. Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury; 20 Nov. 1680 never delivered]. Printed in 1681; cf. also Cobbett's Parliamentary History, iv, App. x. Other copies in Stowe MSS. 186, f. 169; 306, f. 39. f. 3 b.

17. Papers relating to (a) Sacrifice in the Church, (b) whether there is such in the Church of England. Ascribed by Lloyd to [George] Hickes, Dean of Worcester, afterwards nonjuring bishop of Thetford. f. 85.
18. Treatise shewing that the worship of God "towards the altar" is neither idolatry nor superstition, headed by Lloyd "By Mr Guest reviewed by Dr Bishby." The latter is Nathaniel Bisbie, rector of Long Melford, co. Suffolk. f. 98.
19. "A Just Complaint. against the Degenerous Clergie of the Church of England": an attack on the clergy who took the oaths to William and Mary, dated April 1690. Ascribed by Lloyd to "Dr. Smith. Togry," i.e., Thomas Smith, nonjuring divine and Cottonian librarian. f. 123.
20. Extracts from works of various writers, mainly nonjuring in sympathy, relating to allegiance, sanctity of oaths and non-resistance, preceded by a copy of an unsigned letter dated Westminster, 30 Jan. 1701. The collection is ascribed by Lloyd to [Henry] Gandy, nonjuror (cf. J. H. Overton, op. cit., pp. 147-152). f. 142 b.
22. " Observations upon the Arise and progress of the late Rebellions against King Charles the 1st by Henry Guthry, Bishop of Dunkeld, 1665-1676. On the front of the vellum binding is written in a 19th cent. hand, "Kirk Bramwith." on the back "A Boocke of Coppies of Letters for custom Busines Begun. . ." and "For Mr John Wynn att Mr Moyes house In Tattenham," both in 18th cent. hands.
