1. "Ländliche Suite f. grosses Orchester. . . . Op. 37." Draft of the first number ("In einem verwünwschten Walde") of the work for full orchestra, published in 1891 as "Suite für grosses Orchester. Op. 42," and consisting of four numbers to which a fifth was added in a later edition (J. F. Porte, Edward MacDowell. 1922, p. 86 O. G. Sonneck, Catalogue of First Editions of Edward MacDowell, 1917. pp. 33-34). The last movement (maestoso), bars 139-end, is omitted. The order of the folios should be as follows:-ff. 3 a-10 a, 11 a-12 b, 10b, 13, 13 a-14 a. On f. 14 b ,Ire various suggested titles for the five numbers of the suite, which, however, are not identical with those finally adopted. The original MS. of the final draft of the whole work as sent to press was presented to the Library of Congress by the publisher, Arthur P. Schmidt (Sonneck, op. cit., 34). f. 3.
