MISCELLANEOUS theological tracts, as follows:-
(1) "Officium de corpore Ihesu Christi": a copy of the bull of Urban IV [11 Aug. 1264], instituting the feast of Corpus Christi (Potthast, Regesta, no. 18999; Magnum Bullarium Romanorum Pontificum, Aug. Taurinorum, iii, 1858, pp. 705-708), omitting the clauses at the end relating to indulgences. Beg. "Transiturus de hoe mundo." f. 1.
2. "Incipiunt centum meditationes de passione domini," beg. "Eya mi dulcissime lhesu." Preceded by "Oratio deuota ante excercieium centum articulorum de passione domini," beg. "Intimo cordis affectu." The text is an adaptation, in Latin, of the meditations which form the third part of Henry Suso's "Büchlein der Ewigen Weisheit" (cf. C. Bihlmeyer, Heinrich Seuse. Deutsche Schriften, pp. 314-325). Farced for devotional use with prayers and versicles. This version ii; not identical with the texts as printed in the Cologne (?) edition of Suso's Horologium (? 1480), and in the Prerordiale devotorum, Strassburg, 1489, which also differ somewhat from one another: Related to, and on occasion identical with, another translation (cf. art. 7 below). f. 5.
3. A prayer to the Blessed Virgin from the end of Book I of Suso's Horologium. Beg. "Tibi etiam nunc omnia." Followed by the colophon to the "Centum meditationes." f. 18 b.
4. The tract "De Preparatione ad Missam" of St. Bonaventura, Cardinal-Bishop of Albano, beg. "Ad honorem gloriose et indiuidue trinitatis." Printed in the Franciscan edition of his works (Quaracchi, 1898), viii, pp. 96-106; for early editions see Hain, Repertorium, nos. 3544-3549. f. 19.
5. "De sacrosancta eucaristia ex horologio sapiencie," beg. "Quoniam ad uirtutum scolas." Printed in the Cologne (?) edition of Suso',s Horologium (? 1480), gathering q v. f. 29.
6. "Oratio ad sacramentum," beg. "Ave sanctissimum corpus dominicum." Printed op. cit., gathering s vi. f. 45.
7. "Admonicio beati Bemardi ad discipulum," beg. "In hac siquidem sciencia." Following this is another Latin adaptation from the German of Suso's prologue and meditations on the Passion of Christ, by William, a canon-regular of the Augustinian monastery of Groenendael, near Brussels, beg. "Eya nunc eterna dei sapiencia." The text differs somewhat from that printed in the above-mentioned edition of the Horologium under the title of Prologus cuiusdam fratris de uiridi valle super centum meditationes dominice passions. Preceded by a prologue, shorter than the printed text, beg. "Amatorie paaaionis domini nostri." See above, art. 2. f. 46.
8. A prayer beg. "Tue nunc igitur o crucifixa," printed op. cit., gathering z v, under the heading Oratio pro agentibus hanc centifariam memoriam dominice passionis. f. 58 b.
9. "Prefacio super septem psalmos penitenciales. A. P. de Ailliaco," beg. "Uera penitencia uelud scala:" the preface and meditations on the seven Penitential Psalms by Petrus de Alliaeo, which is printed, with slight variations; in Opuscula Spiritualia Petri de Alliaco, pp. 372-428. f. 59. Vellum; ff. vi + 84. 91 in. x 6½ in. xv cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves, the first leaf being pasted on the front cover. Floriated initials in gold and colours. Contemporary French binding of wooden boards, covered with brown leather; each cover is divided by intersecting fillets into a panel and two frames, the former subdivided by five narrow vertical bands stamped with small stamps, the centre series bearing a rose, the two outer a fleur-de-lys, and the two others the arms of France, while the outer and inner frames are stamped with stamps bearing respectively two birds and a Gallic cock with a star above. On f. i is a contemporary signature "Nicolaus de Marchis de pago cleri." Belonged, like Burney MSS. 300, 301, and Add. MS. 38689, to the Celestines [Priory of St. Antoine, afterw. Abbey of St. Martin-aux-Jumeaux] of Amiens ("Aux Celestins D'Amiens," 17th cent., f. 1). No. 15 in the library (f. i), it is represented by nos. 142, 167, 187, 303 and 393 in the extracts printed by E. Coyecque, Cat. MSS. Bibl. France, xix (1893), pp. Iviii-lxxx, from L. F. Daire's 18th cent. manuscript catalogue raisonné of manuscripts in libraries of French Celestine convents (Bibl. Nationale, fonds français, no. 15290). On f. 59 an 18th cent. hand has written "Extrait et lu." Afterwards in the posession of Sir Thomas Phillipps (MS. 284 ; sale-cat., June 1898, lot 926) and of George Dunn, of Woolley Hall, near Maidenhead (Dunn sale-cat., Feb. 1913, lot 369). Bookplate of E. Ph. G[oldschmidt] on f. iii (Goldschmidt sale-cat., 4 Nov. 1924, lot 1).
