THE FOUR GOSPELS, in Slavonic, with the usual tables of lectional rubrics, menology and Gospel tables. The text begins imperfectly with Matth. i. 7: and the original MS. breaks off imperfectly in January of the menology (f. 298 b). A number of leaves are missing at various points. All after f. 298 is a later (15th cent.) addition on paper. Vellum and (ff. 299-316) paper (water-mark: a scissors, like no. 3666 in Briquet, Les Filigranes, of circ. 1450) ; ff. 316. 12 in. x 9½ in. xiv and xv centt. Gatherings, when entire, of 8 leaves, usually numbered at both ends; nos. and are bound in the wrong order. Double columns of 19 lines. An apostrophe between two consonants sometimes marks the loss of a sound, but at other times has no linguistic justification. Nasal vowels are not used, and of the obscure vowels only b. The script somewhat resembles the example in Karski, Otcherk Slav. Kirtllov. Paleografii, 1901, p. 416. Binding of brown leather over wooden boards, blind-tooled; on the front cover a Greek cross with the legend IC OY NH K[A]. Said in an enclosed note to have belonged to the Troitsko-Sergiev monastery near Moscow.
