SERMO Sancti Chrysostomi ad populum consolatorius, ut moderate ferant imminentem comminationem, etc. [scil. ad Populum Antiochenum Homilia quinta. Vid. S. Chrysost. Opp. ed. Montfaucon, tom. ii. p. 59]; translated by William Sellyng, Prior of Canterbury, as appears from the following colophon, " Finit Sermo quidam Sancti Chrisostomi quàm pulcerrimus; quem e Greco in Latinum traduxit Reverendus in Christo Pater Willielmus Sellyng, prior ecclesiæ Christi Cantuariensis, sacre pagine professor, Anno Domini, 1488," f. 3;-Speculum Regis Edwardi Tertii, per Symonem Islep, Archiepiscopum Cantuariensem; a sharp remonstrance to the King, directed principally against the extortions committed on the poor, in supplying his household, but which seems, from internal evidence, to have been composed about the year 1337, some years before Islip became Archbishop, [see two other copies in Mss. Harl., 2399, f. 13, and 6237. A treatise of a similar nature and form, but with different matter, exists, and is intitled, in Ms. Cott., Faustina, B. I. f. 184, " Exortacio Regis Angliæ, Edwardi Tertii';" but in two other copies, Old Royal Ms., 10, B. XI., and Ms. Cott. Cleopatra, D. IX. f. 87, " Tractatus de gubernatione regni, secundum justitiam,"] f. 29;-Celsi [Maphæi] Veronensis, canonici regularis Lateranensis congregationis, Dissuasoria, ne Christiani Principes ecclesiasticos usurpent census: ad inclitum Venetorum Senatum; written in the year 1471 ; and printed at Verona, 4to, 1503. Prefixed are two letters; the first from Domizio [Caldernio] of Verona to Jacopo [Piccolomini degli Ammanati], Cardinal of Pavia; and the second from Ermolao Barbaro, Bishop of Verona, to the author; dat. prid. kal. Feb. 1471 ; both printed with the treatise; and at the end is a letter from Christopher Urswyke [chaplain of Henry VII., Dean of Windsor, etc], to Thomas Goldston, Prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, transmitting copies of the treatise and letters; written between the years 1494- 1517, f. 77. Two tables of contents are prefixed to this volume; the one in a contemporary hand, the other more recent. On vellum, written at the beginning of the xvith cent. Octavo. [15,673.]
