"RECUEIL d'Epitres de plusieurs Papes, qui ont tenu le Saint Siege à Avignon," arranged in five divisions; with an "Avertissement" at the beginning, and with explanatory remarks prefixed to each letter. The five divisions contain the following pieces:-i. One hundred and twelve Letters of Innocent VI. [1352-1362], f. 3 b. ;-ii. Thirteen Letters of Urban V. [1362-1370], f. 156 ;-iii. Seventy-two Letters of Gregory IX., written at Avignon [1370-1376], f. 179 ;-iv. One hundred and sixty-two Letters of the same, written at Rome and Anagni [1377, 1378], f. 260 ;-v. " Cinq lettres écrites apres la mort de Gregoire Xl. durant le schisme," by the following writers:-
Clement VII. [1394]; Guy de Roye, Bishop of Verdun (two letters), [1379] ; Charles VI. of France [1394] ; Guillaume, titular Patriarch of Constantinople [1394]. The name of N. le Diseur is stated to have been written in the MS. from which the present copy was made, as the collector of the letters comprised in the fourth division. On the fly leaf at the beginning is a memorandum by the Marquis de Fortia, stating that the volume was written by Esprit Fléchier, Bishop of Nismes [who died in 1710], a descendant of whom sold it to the Marquis.
