"THE Boc of Vices and Vertues ; " being a treatise on the ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the seven deadly sins, the Lord's Prayer, the seven gifts of the Holy Ghost, etc. ; translated from the original French work, intitled " La Somme le Roi," or, " Li Livres Roiaux de Vices et de Vertus," compiled in 1279, for Philip III. of France, by his Confessor Priar Lorens or Laurent. [An earlier English translation, under the title of " Ayenbyte of Inwyt," made in 1340, exists in MS. Arundel, 57; and a third version of the same work was published by Caxton, under the title of " The Book Ryal, or the book for a kyng in 1484] At fol. 5 are inserted some stanzas of religious poetry, written in a liand of the xvith century. On vellum, xvth cent. Folio. [17,013.]
