THE STORIE of Thebes; a poem by John Lydgate, monk of St. Edmundsbury, f. 1; "De Regimine Principum;" a poem by Thomas Occleve, compiled from the "Secretum Secretorum," attributed to Aristotle, the treatise "De Regimine Principum" of Egidius de Colonna, and the "Liber moralis de ludo Scaccorum" of Jacobus de Cessolis, f. 30. The colophon is "Explicit Hoccleve in Aristotele et Egidio de Regimine Principum et Jacobo de Ciceles, scilicet Chesse." Vellum; finely written in the XVth cent.; given to the monastery of Amesbury by Richard Wygynton in 1508. At the beginning and end are single leaves, formerly pasted to the covers of the volume, being fragments of a household account, apparently of Elizabeth de Burgh, Countess of Ulster, wife of Prince Lionel of England, in the years 30-33 Edw. III. [1356-1359]. Amongst the items are entries of payments for Geoffrey Chaucer. [Add. 18,632.]
