DICTS or sayings of the Philosophers; translated from the French by Antony Widvile, Baron Scales, afterwards Earl Rivers. The first folio is missing, but at the end is the colophon, "Thus endith this book of the dytees and notable wise seyengges of the philisophers late translated and drawen owt of ffrenshe into our englysshe tong by my forsaid Lord Skales. and bi his commandment set in forme in this maner as ye may here in this book see whiche was ffynysshid the XXVIIJ day of ye moneth of Novembir and ye seventh yere of ye Reygne of kyng Edward the ffouþe. Si Tho ponatur et mas sibi associatur Et Cokke addatur q1 scripsit sic uocitatur." Prefixed are notices of Caxton's editions, and of this MS. by Sir W. C. Trevelyan, Bart., J. Power, and William Blades. The fly-leaves contain entries of births and obits of the family of Hill of Spaxton, co. Somerset, 1479-1530, with medical recipes and verses in English: and Christopher and Hugh Trevylyan, and Hugh Hill, have inscribed their names, severally, in the XVIth century, on ff. 52 and 81.
