LICINIANUS FRAGMENTS
Correspondence and tracts relating to Add. MS. 17212, the unique palimpsest fragments of the annalist Licinianus; 1856-1858. The tracts include (ff. 3-44) the first edition of Licinianus by Karl August Friedrich Pertz, 1857, and (ff. 63-105b) the succeeding edition by the Bonn scholars, 1858, both with pencil notes (ff. 9b-73b passim) by Sir Frederic Madden, Keeper of Manuscripts, correcting assertions of the editors. The correspondence opens (ff. 1-2) with a letter, 10 Oct. 1856, from Pertz to Thomas Ellis of the Department of Manuscripts, and is followed (ff. 45-51, 56, 57) by letters between Madden on the one hand and Pertz, his father Georg Heinrich Pertz, editor of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica, and Paul Anton de Lagarde on the other, dealing with mis-statements of the first editor.
