A selection from the correspondence, official and private, and other papers of John Elliott Burns, P.C., M.P. (b. 1858, d. 1943), President of the Local Government Board 1905-1914, and of the Board of Trade 1914. These papers were used by W. Kent, F.S.A., for his John Burns: Labour's Lost Leader, 1950, and by K.D. Brown for John Burns, 1977. See also Add. MS. 59669. Other papers and books of Burns, which are the properly of the Amalgamated Engineering Union (see Y. Kapp, 'John Burns' Library' in Our History [Historians' Group of the Communist Party], no. 16, 1959), are housed by the Trades Union Congress at Congress House, London. Classified as follows:-
