GIOVANNI PUZZI: Compositions or arrangements for the horn mostly by or associated with Giovanni Puzzi (b. 1792, d. 1876); 1st half 19th cent. Mostly copies. Apparently unpublished. As follows:-
(1) Three arrangements by Puzzi:- (a) 'Air Varié en quatuor' for horn, violin, viola and 'cello. Score and parts. ff. 1-14;- (b) 'Fantasia for the Horn In which is Introduced the Airs of Faithless Emma and God save the King' for horn, flute, violins 1 and 2, viola, 'cello and bass. Parts. ff. 15-31;- (c) ' Oh! Divina Agnese', Romanza from Bellini's opera, 'Beatrice di Tenda' (1833), arranged for horn, strings and piano. Score. ff. 32-33b.
(2) Works written for Puzzi:- (a) Andantino and Allegro in F for horn, violin, viola and bass, 'fait pour Puzzi' by L(ouis Emmanuel) Jadin (b. 1768, d. 1853). Score. Autograph? ff. 34-36;- (b) 'Capriccio obligato a Corno', with accompaniment for flute, strings and guitar, 'Eseguito Dal Sig r G. Puzzi', by Francesco Vincenzo Schira (b. 1809, d. 1883). Score (autograph) and parts. Signature of Puzzi on ff. 38, 53, 57, 61, 66, 72, 77, 82, 90, 95. Composed for 'le reunioni di Lord Saulton' (Alexander George Fraser, 16th Baron Saltoun). ff. 38-96b.
(3) Arrangements for the horn of works by Mozart, viz.:- (a) 'Air Varie' for horn, violins 1 and 2, viola and bass, consisting of variations on 'Là ci darem la mano' from 'Don Giovanni' (l787) by- Finke (?). Score, copied by 'W.W.', Jan. 1845 (cf. f. 99b). ff. 97- 99b;- (b) 'Concertante' for piano, horn, viola and 'cello arranged from Mozart's trio in E flat for clarinet, viola and piano, K. 498, by Basham Livius.
