'NARRATIVE OF A JOURNEY FROM TABRUZ along the shores of the Caspian Sea to Tehran by Keith Edward Abbott Esqre'; 4 Nov. 1843- 13 Feb. 1844. Copy (after 1860). The journal, which appears to have been written as an official report, signed and dated at Tehran, 20 Apr. 1844, is concerned principally with topography and trade. A number of appendices (ff. 96-117b), similarly signed and dated at Tehran, 28 Sept. 1844 (f. 117b), describe the import and export trade, etc., of individual towns and native states visited. The author (d. 1873) was British Consul at Tehran 1841-1854, and subsequently Consul-General at Tabriz and Odessa. A short account by him of the province of Ghilan, which he traversed on the present journey, is printed in Proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society, iii, 1858-1859, pp. 390-395.
