The entries relating to his estates and the profits of his Student's place at Christ Church form the basis of his half-yearly accompts for Michaelmas 1668 and Lady Day 1669 in Oxford, Bodleian Library MS. Locke f. 12, pp. 242-240 (rev.). Two other printed almanacs, for the years 1674 and 1672, used similarly by him as notebooks, are ibid., MSS. Locke f. 13, f. 48 (see P. Long, Summary Catalogue of the Lovelace Collection of the Papers of John Locke in the Bodleian Library, Oxford Bibliographical Society, new ser., viii for 1956, 1959, p. 23, and Bodleian Library Record, vii, 1962-1967, p. 190). Paper; ff. 51. Vicesimoquarto. A.D. 1669. Contemporary calf binding, with the year '1669' stamped on the front in gold. On the front pastedown (f. 1) are:- (i) The pressmark 'RR.21', cf. Bodleian Library MS. Locke f. 48 ( 'RR.24' ) and, for Locke's use of pressmarks, etc., J. Harrison and T. P. R. Laslett, The Library of John Locke, Oxford Bibliographical Society, new ser., xiii, 1965, pp. 30 sqq.;- (ii) Impressions in red sealing wax of three engraved gems and of a signet with the arms of Locke, the last identified as John Locke's seal in an accompanying 19th-cent. note by Charles Edward Long, the antiquary. A second note by Long, dated Feb. 1840 (f. 2) records the gift of the MS. by William, lst Earl of Lovelace, to Henry Lawes Long, and by the latter to himself. It subsequently passed to Miss Catherine Beatrice Long, great-aunt of the donor. Presented by Major Philip John Randolph Currie, O.B.E., M.C.
