NIJINSKY SCORE. Choreographic score of the ballet by Vaslav Nijinsky
(b. 1890, d. 1950) to Debussy's 'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune'; Budapest,
Aug.-Sept. 1915. Autograph. With a dedication (f. 2) to Nijinsky's wife,
Romola. The ballet was first produced at the Châtelet Theatre, Paris, 29 May
1912. The notes in Russian on f. 1 relate to the scenery, accessories, costumes,
action, and dancers in the 1912 production. Other notes in Russian, passim,
relate to details of the action and (cf. ff. 4, 22b) the stage sets. The choreog-
raphic notation was Nijinsky's invention and is written in groups of three
staves, not six as implied by F. Reiss, Nijinsky, 1960, p. 150. For an explanation of the notation, see A. H. Guest and C. Jeschke, Nijinsky’s Faune Restored (Philadelphia, 1991).
Paper; ff. 28. Folio. A.D. 1915. Presented by Mme. Romola Nijinsky, widow
of the dancer.
