MINUTE BOOK of the Association for Promoting the Repeal of the Taxes on Knowledge, 3 Jan. 1857-6 Feb. 1861, kept by the Secretary, Collet Dobson Collet, and signed mainly by Richard Moore, the Chartist, as Chairman. These minutes, which incorporate cuttings, etc., mostly from the Association's monthly Gazette, relate to the campaign to abolish the paper duty, repealed in June 1861. The signature of John Watts, Ph.D., as Sub- Treasurer, appears on f. 9b. For an account of the Association see C. D. Collet, History of the Taxes on Knowledge, 1899, especially vol. i, pp. 132- 145.
