The saints' names in gold include the following:- Geneviève (3 Jan.), Vincent (22 Jan.), Pris (i.e. Praejectus, 25 Jan.), Charles (i.e. Charlemagne, 28 Jan.), Leu (i.e. Lupus, 1 Sept.), Gilles (1 Sept.), Denis (9 Oct.), Marcel (3 Nov.), Martin (11 Nov.). ff. 1-12b;- (2) Sequentiae of the Gospels. ff. 14-21;- (3) Two prayers to the Virgin Mary. ff. 22-28b;- (4) Hours of the Virgin (Matins and Lauds), Paris use. ff. 30-63;- (5) Hours of the Cross and of the Holy Ghost, combined. ff. 63b-107b;- (6) Seven Penitential Psalms and Litany (with names of Marcel, Geneviève, etc.). ff. 108-124;- (7) Office of the Dead. ff. 125-167b;- (8) The fifteen Joys of Mary. French. ff. 168-173b;- (9) The seven requests. French. ff. 174- 176b;- (10) Invocation to the Holy Cross. French. f. 177;- (11) Memoriae of the Saints, including Denis, Geneviève, etc., and concluding with All Saints. ff. 177b-193b. Vellum; ff. 193. Octavo. Late XV cent. Executed in France. The illuminations include;-(a) in the Calendar, representations of the saints in the borders, and the usual illustrations of signs of the Zodiac and the occupations of the month;-(b) twenty large illustrations (with several smaller ones in each accompanying border), the subjects being:- St. John (f. 14); St. Luke (f. 16); St. Matthew (f. 18); St. Mark (f. 20); Pietà (f. 22); Virgin and Child (f. 26); The Annunciation (f. 30); The Salutation (f. 53); The entry into Jerusalem (f. 63b); The descent of the Holy Ghost (f. 65); Christ before Pilate (f. 67); Being crowned with thorns (f. 74); Bearing the Cross (f. 80); Crucified with, on the right, Mary and John, and on the left, Longinus (f. 86); The descent from the Cross (f. 92); The Entombment (f. 100b); David being anointed (f. 108); the raising of Lazarus (f. 125); The Virgin crowned, with Child, seated with two angels (f. 168); The Trinity (f. 174);- (c) twenty-one smaller illustrations of the Memoriae, the subjects being:-The Trinity (f. 177b); St. Michael (f. 178); St John the Baptist (f. 178b); St. Peter (f. 179); St. John the Evangelist (f. 179b); St.
