HUGGETT COLLECTIONS
- Scope & Content:
-
Collections for a history of Eton College from its foundation in 1446, made by and chiefly in the autograph of the Rev. Roger Huggett, Librarian of Eton College and Vicar of St. George's Chapel, Windsor, who bequeathed them to the British Museum in 1769. Six volumes. They consist of notes and transcripts of documents in Eton College archives and elsewhere relating to the history of the College and to its connection with St. George's, Windsor, and King's College, Cambridge. The collections appear to have been made by Huggett for a projected 'Antiquitates et Athenae Etonenses' a table of contents for which occurs in 4843, ff. 29-166. They include 'Articles of Complaint exhibited to the Provost and Fellows of the College of Eton: tending to shew that their present Management of the College Affairs is contrary to the Statutes... to which is since added, A Dissertation upon College Fines and of the unstatutable Application of ye same', both by Huggett, dated 6 Dec. 1760 and 6 Dec. 1761 respectively (4842, ff. 1-132b). Paper. Folio. XVIII cent.
