Chirograph of Fredescendis, abbess of Maubeuge, granting to Guarin, abbot of Vicogne (also called Casa Dei), a carucate of land in Beldenies, called the Land of St Aldegund, and the field of Gouinleu. Guarin was abbot of Vicogne 1129-1151, and then abbot of Laon until his death in 1171.
The witness list features several women from Maubeuge Abbey, including Ermengarde the deaconess.
Endorsed: in a 12th-century hand, ‘S Bealdines et de Gouinleu s Malbodiensis alb’’'; in a 19th-century hand, ‘Cette lettre contient la permission / de Frediscende abbesse de Maubeuge / donnée a Guarin abbé de Vicoigne / outre le champ de Goinleu de / posseder enier la valeur d’une / charue a Beaudegnies terre / de Ste Aldegunde reservant / tout droit’; in a different 19th-century hand, ‘Purchased 23 Jan. / 1838 / at Prans Lot 861’.
