- The journal of Sir John Narbrough
- Scope & Content:
- An account by Sir John Narbrough (c.1640-1688) of two voyages. The first, to the Caribbean on board Assurance and then Bonaventure, from 1 May 1666 to 20 October 1668. The second, on board Sweepstakes, to South America and through the Straits of Magellan, 15 May 1669 to 1 August 1671. Mostly in Narbrough's own hand, the journal includes navigational tables, observations on weather, wildlife and customs. A number of small plans and illustrations are interspersed throughout the journal. Also three separate manuscript maps and one printed map, this latter from the 1711 published account of Narbrough's second voyage.
