- Material: Paper.
- Foliation: ff 216, plus many unfoliated blanks.
- Dimensions: 105 x 78 mm.
- Binding: Full calf leather binding of gold-tooled mottled calf, with flap, contemporary.
- Scribes: The first compiler was responsible for the bulk of the text, beginning at f 12. The same hand was responsible for additions to Add MS 8239, ff 1-1v. The second and third compilers made extensive additions to this core text, some of which required the insertion of additional pages. The fourth compiler's contribution is by far the smallest and sometimes comprises only one or two entries for a letter.
- Custodial History:
- Armorial bookplate of Frederic North, later 5th Earl of Guilford, inscribed in ink 'No 465' (listed as such in the catalogue of Guilford's Greek books, Add MS 16572, f 51). 'u.a.L./10/A' in pencil, f 1. '564' and '292' in pencil on front pastedown. On top of f 1 a note in Latin, partly translated in Greek: non omnis non (crossed out) fere omnia Stelas οὐ πᾶσα πάντα φέρει γῆ (another hand wrote: πλίνιου). The Latin text continues at the bottom (upside down) terra australis, sive meridonalis, versus polum ponticum, id est νότιος γῆ.
