PORTLAND CHARTERS: charters acquired with the Portland Papers (Add. MSS. 70001-70523), allocated to the British Library by H.M. Treasury in May 1987, having previously been on deposit in the British Library as Loan MS. 29. The Portland charters contain a significant group of early 12th-13th century charters chiefly associated with Fountains Abbey (Add.
