Petition to Pope Calixtus III (r. 1455-58) from Vaggia, widow of Bernardo di Bardi, and Alexander and Hilary, their sons, of Florence, asking for permission to choose a confessor, secular or regular, who can celebrate mass despite an interdict or other ecclesiastical censure, using a portable altar, and can absolve them of all sins save those reserved to the Pope, and grant plenary absolution at the hour of their death.
Bearing the autograph Fiat of the Pope and signature of Jacobus Vannucci, bishop of Perugia, Papal Secretary.
Endorsed: in a 17th-century hand, ‘Indulgenzé concéssé a Donna Vaggia, figla del gia Bernardo Bardi et ad Aléssandra suoi figlioli di Firenze’.
