Fformerly belonged to Thomas Stapleton, the antiquary, who acquired them from Abbé Gervais de la Rue, the historian of Caen (L. Delisle, Cat. des M S S. du fonds de La Trémoïlle, 1889, p. 19). They formed lots 188, 190, 191, 193, part of lot 194, and lot 214 at the sale of the MSS. of Mona Josephine Tempest Fitzalan Howard [née Stapleton], Baroness Beaumont, wife of Bernard Edward Fitzalan-Howard, 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop (Sotheby's, 22 Oct. 1920). Add. Ch. 67575, 67578, 67579 and 6758I later belonged to W. A. Lindsay, C. V. O. and, with the remainder, to R. A. Coates, Esq.
