Owned by César de Missy (1703-1775), Prussian critic and divine, who brought the manuscript from Mount Athos. De Missy was George III's French chaplain, and spent his life collecting materials for an edition of the New Testament. At the top of f 1 is written in De Missy's hand `Ex libris Caesaris De Missy, Berolinensis, Londini: Anno D(omi)ni 1745', while at the foot of f 259 is written `Ex libris Caesaris De Missy, Berolinensis, Londini: Anno D(omi)ni MDCCXLV'.
Purchased at the sale of de Missy's library, 18-26 March 1776, lot 1631.
