Material: Parchment.
Foliation: ff iv + 318. f iii is a book plate pasted on the inside front board.
Dimensions: 325 x 210 mm.
Ruling: 200 x 60 mm, written in two columns, 18 lines per column.
Binding: Brown leather (wild boar), on millboards. Blind-tooled, probably 19th century. The edges can be seen on Digitised Manuscripts: fore-edge (f v recto), upper edge (f vi recto), lower edge (f vii recto). Two images taken with raking light of the front and back covers can be see as f viii recto and f ix recto, respectively.
Spine: gold-tooled in Capital Greek: ΜΗΝΟΛΟΓΙΟΝ/ ΧΓ
Decoration: Illuminated headpieces (ff 1r, 59r, 93r, 137r, 233r) and headbands (ff 210r, 230r, 248v, 257v, 263r, 278r, 292r, 297r, 300r, 301v, 302v, 309r, 312r). Decorated initials, frequently zoomorphic or historiated. Headings and some writing in gold. Occasional flourishes to letters on the final line of a page, especially χ, φ, λ, ι, and ξ.

Produced in the workshop of the 'Copiste du Métaphraste', according to Hutter 2000.
Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford (1766-1827), colonial governor and philhellene: his armorial bookplate (f iii) and book-stamp (f ii verso); his sale, 8 December 1830, lot 496 (f ii verso).
Sir Thomas Phillipps, baronet (1792-1872), collector of books and manuscripts: his ownership inscription, f ii verso. Acquired by Phillipps from Payne and Foss: "Payne" inscribed on f ii verso.
Deposited as Loan MS 36/23 with the British Museum in 1949 by A. G. Fenwick and the Trustees of the Fenwick Settlement.
