- Diary of Capt (later Lt-Col) William Anderson (1803-58), Bengal Army 1823-58, recording events leading up to the retreat of the British forces at Kabul 1842, and his experiences as a captive of Muhammad Akbar Khan, with his wife and small daughter and some other British prisoners; memorial written by Anderson to Lord Canning detailing his career; account by Mrs Amy Anderson written in old age, of the ordeal. Also, typescript transcript of Amelia Anderson's account of the retreat from Cabul in 1842, and her subsequent captivity, taken from the handwritten copy made by Wallace Ramsey Stratton.
