1-3) Diaries, dated 1869-70, and 1891, of Lt-Col Henry Erskine Forbes, British Army 1843-70, giving short notes of his activities including service in Ambala and leave and retirement in Britain and Europe; two letters, dated 1869, from Forbes to Lady Lawrence, wife of Sir George St Patrick Lawrence, making arrangements for his children and informing her of his father's death; and miscellaneous letters dated 1906-07.
4A) A volume of extracts and notes dated 1868 - 1882. The volume includes newspaper cuttings, the author's notes and research on European politics with photographs of Baden Baden of Germany, economic analysis of Britain and its colonies, notes on Afghanistan and Anglo-Afghan War, expenditure and revenues of India, and analysis of the cost of Anglo-Afghan War, Expedition to Egypt in 1882, Regimental Daily Pay, General Annual Returns of the (British) Army, an index to the entries, 1 hand-drawn map of Former Overland Route to India at the back.
