Hanna Ainsworth (1802-1883), daughter of Richard Ainsworth of Moss Bank and Smithills Hall, Bolton le Moors, Lancashre, married Edward Webster, a lawyer in London in 1834. Their daughter Anna Julia Webster married Sir Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff (1829-1906), Under-Secretary of State for India 1868-74, Governor of Madras 1881-86.
The diaries cover the period from 1819 to 1879, mostly summaries of her monthly activities in Victorian England, roughly two months per page in earlier volumes and one month per 2 pages in later years:
