- This Fonds consists of digitised copies of the photographic collections held by the Ethnographic Institute and Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia.
Dated from the mid 19th to mid 20th centuries, the photographs are arranged into three Series - negatives, ethnographic photographs, glass plates - and document ethnographic, historical and artistic research. Photographic subjects include traditional costumes, celebrations, material culture, architecture, agricultural methods and implements, artistic works, and geographic and environmental features.

- The digitised collections have been arranged into three Series, maintaining the divisions used by the Ethnographic Institute and Museum (EIM) photographic collections -- Glass Plates, Negatives, and Ethnographic Photographs. The EIM maintains photographs in boxes, files and albums arranged by subject, and this arrangement has been kept here; individual photographs are catalogued at item level, and the containers - i.e. albums, boxes - at file level.
