A typed transcript of the original manuscript written by Frederick Peile between 1884 and 1902. F W Peile, born at Stamford Hill in 1828, entered the corps of Royal Engineers, and proceeding to India in 1848, joined the Public Works Department as an Assistant Engineer, and promoted to Executive Engineer in 1851. As Executive Engineer he was in charge of the Patna Branch Road and of the Hazaribagh and Allahabad Divisions.
