The collection from the Notary in Carmen de Atrato contains 5435 images from the municipality of Carmen de Atrato in the Department of Chocó. Carmen de Atrato was founded in 1874 by settlers from the adjacent department of Antioquia. The large majority of these early settlers worked on agriculture and later, at the turn of the century, in the exploitation of rubber. The town also served as a hub for merchants transporting merchandise from Quibdó, the capital of the Department of Chocó, and Santa Fé de Antioquia and Medellín in the Department of Antioquia. The collection of 12 books digitized by the project includes records from 1901 to 1940 related to the judicial, economic history and social history of the region. While originally produced in Carmen de Atrato, these records are now held at the Notaria Primera de Quibdó. There are no available catalogues related to this collection.
